Confession of Faith |
- The battle.
- There are those who deny that the Christian is in a war.
- The enemy is spiritual (not flesh and blood, 12) and thus the battle is spiritual.
- Devil (liar, deceiver) is the evil one who uses “wiles” (cunning tricks and deceit).
- His aim is our soul and the spiritual, not the physical and earthly.
- The combat zone is found in the ordinary duties and relationships of life (4:1 - 6:9).
- The battle is constant.
- The only sufficient armor is that which God provides in the Lord Jesus (3:20; Phil. 4:13).
- It is called “the armor of God.”
- The armor is the fruit of the work of Jesus for us: truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation.
- In sum, show that you appropriate the truth of salvation by obeying in thankfulness its every admonition.
- Be trained by His righteousness to submit yourself to His discipllinies.
- God’s Word is your defense and your offense.
- Your calling.
- First, “take” (a command indicating urgency and necessity) the armor.
- Thus we are “able to withstand” (13) and to “stand” (14).
- When we are conscious of the protection given by the armor of God, we are able to resist the devil.
- To “stand” and “withstand” is to be victorious.
