- Moses request.
- God tells him to climb a mountain in order to see the land promised, and then he will die.
- Then Moses prayerfully asks God to revoke His sentence forbidding him to enter Canaan.
- His motive is to see more of the mighty hand of God.
- Moses desired Canaan and did not want the sign of rejection from the heavenly Canaan.
- God s refusal is because this sanctifies Him before the people.
- God refused to grant Moses request.
- God s answer does not allow any such request and even expresses displeasure that Moses asked.
- God s refusal is because of Moses past sin and his present sin: God was angry with Moses for your sakes.
- This is not an accusation of Israel by Moses: it is your fault;
- This expresses that God s love for Israel was greater and it was against them that Moses had sinned.
- Moses position made his sin greater.
- As severe as is the judgment, God s grace is sufficient: Let it suffice thee (26).
- And this makes us see that Moses is not THE Mediator, but only an imperfect type of Jesus.
- Moses submission was that he accepted God s will for him, trusting His grace to be enough.
- Moses is to die when the work God gave him to do was finished (34:5).
- Accepting God s sufficient grace, Moses leaves the people with warnings and blessings.
- God showed Moses all the land of Canaan, likely by increasing his eyesight (34:4).
- God buried Moses - most unique burial (34:6).
