The Calling of Employers

  1. Their calling.
    1. “Do the same things unto them.”
    2. “Forbearing threatening.”
    3. Masters are to pay just wages – “Give ... that which is just and equal” (Col. 4:1).
      1. That which is “just” is a legal obligation which is due to a slave/employee.
      2. That which is “equal” refers to the mind and manner of acting, so rule with paternal affection.
  2. Incentive.
    1. See the Christian employee as “a brother, beloved, specially to” the Lord (Philemon 16).
    2. Be conscious that you have a Master in heaven.
      1. Forgetting this Master is the origin of all injustice.
      2. He is the same Master your Christian employees have.
    3. What sort of Master do master/employers have? One “in heaven.”
    4. Let the masters realize that just as their slaves are accountable to them, so they will have to answer to the Master.
