Confession of Faith |
- The personal confession.
- The intent of this passage is that we, by faith, go along with this very personal confession and make it our own.
- Nonetheless this personal confession is based on and is an expression of objective reality.
- What Paul confesses was true - a reality.
- This is a past accomplishment which results in a present reality.
- Both election and the atonement were for each elect personally as well as for the elect as an organic whole.
- The blessed reality.
- Christ died by crucifixion.
- The Son of God took upon Himself all the guilt of our sin and sinfulness, becoming a curse for us (3:10-13).
- My relationship to Him is so real and so close that it is as though I personally hung on His cross.
- ?Nevertheless, I live.?
- The life of Christ (and of us) is the life of the crucified One, i.e., One who came out of death.
- This life is only by faith because we still live ?in the flesh.?
- The solid basis.
- The Son of God loved me.
- Jesus is identified as very God. We were purchased with the very blood of God!
- In Jesus? love to the Father was also His love toward me.
- Text emphasizes that the Son of God loved me in the moment of the cross, when He gave Himself for me.
- It was His love at the cross which was the revelation of the eternal love of the Triune God.
- This love was sovereign.
- He loved me personally.
